Der künstliche Darm – die Kraft von Mikroben in unserem Darm
Guided tour in German, 12–16 years
Trillions of microbes are living in our intestine in very well organised ecosystems, known as the “gut microbiota”/ “Darmflora”. Why are they there and what do they do? Can we influence them through our lifestyle?
During this lab tour we will explain you how we study the gut microbiota of different persons in the lab using our artificial gut, the PolyFermS bioreactor system, developed at ETH. We will explain and discuss how our gut microbiota can influence our health and wellbeing and how we can study and manipulate their function. Visitors will be fascinated by observing and smelling the gut microbiota directly from the PolyFermS reactor, by seeing how those microbes can be isolated and cultivated in absence of oxygen and how they can be further characterized and studied in the lab for their potential powerful functions to promote health.
